Since October 1st Prof. Dr. Julia Vogel works in the area of axion physics and the development of X-ray instruments at the department of physics.

The Faculty of Physics welcomes Prof. Dr. Julia Vogel. After her PhD at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in 2009, she worked as a postdoc and later as a researcher at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in California and collaborated intensively with various NASA centers. Since 2022, she has worked as a María Zambrano researcher at the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR, Spain). On October 1, she took up her professorship at the Faculty of Physics in Dortmund. Her research focuses on the search for dark matter in the form of axions as part of the CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) and the future International Axion Observatory (IAXO) at DESY. Furthermore, she played a key role in the development of X-ray telescopes and the analysis of neutron star observations of the NASA mission NuSTAR (Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array). Prof. Dr. Vogel will work closely with physicists involved in theoretical and experimental particle physics.
