Particle Therapy Masterclass
Modern radiation therapy would be inconceivable without physicists. Hand in hand with the medical staff, they plan the radiation treatments individually for each patient and monitor the technical safety of the radiation facilities. Physicists face special challenges in hadron therapy (use of proton or ion beams instead of conventional photon radiation). In this masterclass, students will get an insight into the tasks of physicists in hadron therapy. As with the Masterclasses from particle physics, the experiences will be exchanged in concluding video conferences with international partners. The masterclass on medical physics is organized jointly with colleagues from the Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University and the Department of Physics and Medical Physics from the WPE (Westdeutsches Protonentherapiezentrum Essen) at the Universitätsklinikum Essen.
Dates and Deadlines
- The next particle therapy masterclass will take place online on 03/08/2022.
- Registrations will be considered until 02/18/2022.
- Hosting on site will depend on the Covid19 situation. If the situation does not allow it, the event will be held online. There will be no hybrid event.
Registration
Complete then registration form and email to masterclasses.physik@tu-dortmund.de by the deadline.

![3D visualisation of human neuronal tissue reconstructed by multi-scale X-ray phase contrast tomography. Neuronal cell nuclei are shown in yellow for the granule neurons in the dentate gyrus region of the hippocampus. Blood vessels are shown in red. By changing the X-ray optical magnification in the multi-scale recordings, one can zoom into regions-of-interest (red ovals). In these scans the resolution is high enough to resolve sub-structures of the nucleus, associated with different DNA packing regimes.
