Medical physicists at the hospital
- Careers-in-Physics

In a hospital, a medical physics expert has an important role in the planning, implementation and control of medical procedures that use radiation. In the fields of radiation therapy and nuclear medicine, medical physics experts have had a large area of responsibility for years. Since the change in radiation protection legislation in 2019, medical physics experts have also become increasingly involved in X-ray diagnostics. The daily routine in the clinic or practice is very diverse and, depending on the area, it includes a range of responsibilities and tasks.

![3D visualisation of human neuronal tissue reconstructed by multi-scale X-ray phase contrast tomography. Neuronal cell nuclei are shown in yellow for the granule neurons in the dentate gyrus region of the hippocampus. Blood vessels are shown in red. By changing the X-ray optical magnification in the multi-scale recordings, one can zoom into regions-of-interest (red ovals). In these scans the resolution is high enough to resolve sub-structures of the nucleus, associated with different DNA packing regimes.
