New professorship in the area of theoretical biophysics physics established
- News

The department of physics welcomes Prof. Dr. Igor Schapiro. After completing his PhD at the University of Duisburg-Essen, he held postdoctoral positions at the Center for Photochemical Sciences at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim and the Institute of Materials Physics and Chemistry in Strasbourg. He then accepted a faculty position at the Institute of Chemistry at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. His goal is to apply and develop computational tools to understand chemical reactions in organic and biomolecules. On the application side, the focus is on light-induced reactions, especially in chromophore-protein complexes and solvated molecules. On the development side, he is interested in computational tools that support research on photochemical/photobiological systems. His professorship is connected with a director position at the UA Ruhr Research Chemical Science and Sustainability.

Solid lines are predictions of the kp theory with no free parameters. Splitting of the conduction (e1,2) and valence (h1) band is due to the quantum confinement. [J.
