An interdisciplinary research team including JProf. Armin Lühr and Christian Hahn from the Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University has been awarded the 2020 Research Prize of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. The two researchers work in the field of proton beam therapy. In the awarded work, together with researchers at OncoRay - National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology in Dresden, they were able to use magnetic resonance tomography to show how the human brain changes after photon and proton irradiation. Based on the findings, a gentler treatment of brain tumor patients using proton therapy has already been introduced. The award comes with a prize money of 30,000 euros.
