International team theoretically describes a new class of exotic superconductors

Jun. Prof. Benedikt Fauseweh from the Department of Physics has worked with an international research team to theoretically describe a new class of superconductors. The results could provide important impetus for future quantum computers.

An international research team with the participation of Jun. Prof. Benedikt Fauseweh from the Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University has made significant progress in superconductivity research. Together with scientists from Saarland University, Eindhoven University of Technology and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), they have succeeded in theoretically describing a new class of superconductors.

The work focuses on long-range interactions between electrons in superconducting materials. While previous theoretical approaches usually only consider short-range attractive forces for reasons of simplification, the study shows that long-range interactions can also be described within the framework of an extended BCS theory. The research team identified previously unknown superconducting phases that could be relevant for applications in quantum technology in the future.
