„Zwischen Brötchen und Borussia“ is dedicated to the topic of precision
- News
The kick-off will be on 16 October with Dr. Dr. Jens Simon from the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig. In his lecture, he will explain how the system of physical units was revised in 2019 on the basis of natural constants, thus forming an extremely precise foundation for all measurements.
On 30 October, Prof. Johannes Albrecht from the Faculty of Physics at TU Dortmund University will talk about precision particle physics. Prof. Albrecht conducts research as an experimental physicist at the Geneva research centre CERN and will draw a bow from the largest machines in the world to the smallest particles known to us. The lecture will take place as part of the Open Day.
Prof. Karina Morgenstern from the Ruhr University Bochum will devote her lecture on 11 December to physics and chemistry on the nanoscale and explain, among other things, how a single molecule can be used as a switch.
The topic of the last lecture on 15 January is measurements of ultrafast processes. JProf. Wolfram Helml from TU Dortmund University explains how such extremely fast stopwatches work and what one can actually imagine by an "attosecond".
The lectures will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - digitally via a Youtube livestream or in lecture halls 1 and 2 in lecture hall building II, Otto-Hahn-Straße 4. 3G proof must be shown on site and a mouth-nose protection must be worn. The quiz for the lecture will continue to take place online and will be made free on the event website 15 minutes before the lecture starts and disabled 30 minutes after the event.
