ERC Proof of Concept Grant for Prof. Benedikt Sabaß

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded Prof. Benedikt Sabaß from the Department of Physics a Proof of Concept Grant. In his "BacForClimate" project, he is investigating novel compounds that could significantly reduce methane formation in the rumen of cattle. The aim is to further develop the substances discovered as part of an ERC Starting Grant, analyze their mode of action and create the basis for a subsequent market launch. The funding amounts to 150,000 euros; the project is being carried out in cooperation with the LMU Munich.

![3D visualisation of human neuronal tissue reconstructed by multi-scale X-ray phase contrast tomography. Neuronal cell nuclei are shown in yellow for the granule neurons in the dentate gyrus region of the hippocampus. Blood vessels are shown in red. By changing the X-ray optical magnification in the multi-scale recordings, one can zoom into regions-of-interest (red ovals). In these scans the resolution is high enough to resolve sub-structures of the nucleus, associated with different DNA packing regimes.
