Digital Tools for Your Studies
Everything you need to navigate your studies at TU Dortmund: from logging in and finding courses to accessing materials and registering for exams.
Two-factor authentification
When logging in to TU Dortmund services such as Moodle, you will need a second way to verify your identity.
You will be prompted to set up two-factor authentication when you first try to log in to a service that requires it. If you run into any problems, the ITMC Helpdesk can help you.
Recommended app: 2FAS Auth is available for both Android and Apple devices.

TU Dortmund app
The TU Dortmund App is your all-in-one digital companion and brings together many of the things you’ll use throughout your studies:
- Digital Student ID / Campus ID
- LSF & timetable — stay on top of your schedule
- Cafeteria menus — see what’s cooking today
- University Sports program — find your next activity
- Campus navigator — find your way around
- News & events
- Wi-Fi password
Quick tip: Go to the settings and rearrange the tiles on your home screen so the features you use most are always easy to reach.
LSF
LSF stands for Lehre, Studium, Forschung (“Teaching, Study, Research”) and is TU Dortmund University’s online portal for organizing courses.
In LSF, you can find courses, register for courses, search for rooms and people, and view your timetable.
Before you start searching:
Make sure you have selected the correct semester. You don’t need to log in just to browse the available courses. Courses are organized by department and degree program, making it easier to find what belongs to your studies.
The individual course page in LSF contains the information you’ll need, including:
- dates and times of lectures
- room information
- the option to add lectures to your timetable
- a link to the corresponding Moodle room
LSF in the TU Dortmund app
Moodle
Moodle is TU Dortmund’s digital learning platform. Lecturers create virtual course rooms where they can provide teaching materials and where students can also upload coursework.
If your lecture includes exercise sessions, you will often use Moodle to sign up for your preferred exercise time slot.
You can usually access and sign up for the relevant Moodle room directly through LSF, but you can also search for courses directly in Moodle.

BOSS
BOSS stands for Bologna Online Study Service. It is the examination administration portal for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs at TU Dortmund University.
You’ll use BOSS to register for exams and to access your grade overview.
Over the next few years, BOSS will gradually be replaced by the Campus Portal.
