Master of Science / Università di Bologna

I always wanted to spend a semester abroad and decided to spend an Erasmus semester at the University of Bologna for my Master's. Despite the winter semester, the weather there is still warm and summery for a long time. (At least warmer than in Dortmund.) So you can get to know the beautiful, lively and student-oriented city perfectly. According to the experience of others, it can quickly become very warm or even too warm in the summer semester. In general, there are also many international students there and you can make friends very quickly through organizations such as the ESN or IC. They offer many city trips, workshops and weekly meetings and events, which were always well attended. There are also hikes through the nearby mountains. So there is never a dull moment in Bologna.

The teaching and the range of lectures were very good. All my professors were always helpful and courteous. The Master's courses are all offered in English. My exams were all oral. In some cases, however, a presentation had to be prepared. Italian courses are also offered. Unfortunately, these only start at A2 level, which is why I recommend having attended an A1 course beforehand. However, you should also take care of the language courses before your stay.

Unfortunately, the housing situation in Bologna is very bad. It is best to look for rooms at least a few months before your stay. You have to expect high rents or share a room. In addition, you should always be careful, as the need of those looking for a room is well known and can be exploited. It is also advisable to rent a room in or near the city center. If you live outside, you may be unlucky with the buses.

Anyone who would like to live the Italian lifestyle, visit Italian cities and landscapes, study at a time-honored university and escape the German winter in the winter semester is in exactly the right place in Bologna.
