Dortmund Night of Science

"Science Night" turns science into an experience

© Stadt Dortmund
On Friday, September 25, “Science Night” invites you to the Dortmunder U to marvel, discover, and get involved. About 50 partner organizations will bring experiments, robots, artificial intelligence, music, art, and science to every floor—from 4:00 p.m. until late into the night. TU Dortmund University will also be represented with numerous activities for all ages.

For the second Science Night, universities, research institutions, and other educational organizations are once again offering a diverse range of activities for children, teens, and adults: There will be experiments, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, concerts, and numerous hands-on activities. This year, there is a special focus on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). Lectures and discussions will explore its impact on health, society, and the arts, as well as the opportunities and risks posed by new technologies. In addition, visitors can experience science in a wide variety of ways. For example, an immersive project allows participants to experience the immune system’s response following a heart attack. Neighborhood walks through the Nordstadt district address the topics of homelessness and immigration and provide insights into participatory research. Other highlights include a Science Slam and a pub quiz at the Brauturm.

TU Dortmund University is also strongly represented again at the second Science Night, bringing science to the stage at several locations throughout the Dortmunder U. The offerings range from music and film to hands-on activities and insights into current research. Among other things, visitors can extract DNA from strawberries, build and program robots, or discuss how AI is changing science at the philosophical salon. The program also features the guitar ensemble, the Children’s University, and hands-on STEM stations. Most program events are free and open to the public without registration.
