Morning Colloquium on Structure Formation in Organoid Systems

How do complex structures and functions arise from the collective behavior of simple components? Questions of self-organization, pattern formation, mechanics, and active matter connect many fields of modern physics. Andreas Bausch has been researching these questions for decades at the intersection of physics, engineering, and biology—from cytoskeletal systems and biomimetic active matter to living tissue and organoids.

Andreas Bausch holds the Nixdorf Chair in Biophysical Engineering of Living Matter at TUM. His pioneering work on the mechanics and self-organization of the cytoskeleton, active matter, and biomimetic systems has shaped modern biophysics. More recently, his research has focused on organoids and tissue engineering. His scientific achievements have been recognized with several prestigious grants, including an ERC Advanced Grant and an ERC Synergy Grant. He is also the founding director of the Center for Organoid Systems at TUM.
The colloquium is expected to attract broad interest across various disciplines, from physics to biology.
