The master’s program in “Medical Physics and Physics of Living Systems” (MMPPLS) at TU Dortmund University continues to grow: 56 new students have enrolled for the 2026–27 winter semester. They bring a diverse range of academic and international perspectives to the program. Of particular note is the high proportion of women among the students.

The new class is characterized by great international and academic diversity: 72 percent of the students come from abroad and represent four continents—Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.

The students’ academic backgrounds are also wide-ranging. In addition to graduates in physics and medical physics, they bring expertise in biomedicine, mechanical engineering, and bioengineering. With women making up 59 percent of the class, the new cohort also sets an example for diversity in the natural sciences.

In the first semester, students acquire a common foundation in physics, biomedical physics, and related fields. At the same time, the program provides opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration across disciplinary and national boundaries. The goal is to bring together different perspectives and to explore the physical foundations of medical applications and living systems.

Since its launch in the winter semester of 2025/26, the program has developed dynamically. After just one year, the total number of students has grown to 113. This means the number of participants has increased approximately sixfold since the program began.

The department of Physics is pleased to welcome the new students to Dortmund and to work with them to shape the future development of the MMPPLS master’s program.
