Among other positions, Prof. Treusch was President of the German Physical Society (DPG) from 1984 to 1986 and Chairman of the Board of the Forschungszentrum Jülich from 1990 to 2006. from 2006 to 2012 he was President of Jacobs University Bremen.
Prof. Treusch has strong ties to the TU Dortmund University. He was Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Dortmund from 1971 to 1987, and between 1972 and 1973 he was Dean of the Department of Physics. From 1976 to 1978 he was Prorector, and from 1980 to 1984 he was a member of the Senate of the University of Dortmund. Prof. Treusch has been a member of the University Council of TU Dortmund since 2007.
