Welcome of new students in the IMAPP program

The University of Clermont-Auvergne, the University of Bologna and TU Dortmund University welcome their new students in the joint Erasmus Mundus Master program IMAPP.

The international Master’s program “Advanced Methods in Particle Physics” (IMAPP)—jointly offered by the University of Bologna, Université Clermont Auvergne, and TU Dortmund University—has welcomed its newest cohort of students in Clermont. Over the course of the program, students will study at each of the three partner universities, travelling together across Europe.

IMAPP focuses on particle physics and the key methods used in the field, including statistics and machine learning, instrumentation, and scientific computing and programming. Alongside their academic studies, students can take part in language courses, cultural activities, and local support services at all three universities. These offerings aim to introduce them to the European spirit and make their international study experience truly memorable.

The program receives financial support from the European Union’s Erasmus Mundus program, the French-German University, and the French-Italian University.

The cohort beginning in the 2026/27 academic year consists of 38 students from 20 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. This marks the sixth intake of the program. The students’ journey began at Université Clermont Auvergne, where they were welcomed in early September by representatives of the physics departments from all three participating universities.

Next year, the aspiring particle physicists will continue their studies in Dortmund and Bologna. Afterwards, they will move on to one of the program’s many partner institutions worldwide, where they will carry out research for their Master’s projects.
