New funding for international Master's programme in physics

A highly specialised Master's programme with a focus on particle physics has been launched at the Faculty of Physics for the winter semester 2021/22. The Franco-German University (DFH) has now included the programme in its funding. This means that over the next four years, students will receive a DFH scholarship of up to 300 euros per month during their time abroad.
The Faculty of Physics offers the degree programme "International Master of Advanced Methods in Particle Physics" (IMAPP) in cooperation with the University of Bologna in Italy and the University of Clermont Auvergne in France. It is supported by internationally renowned partner institutions and results in a joint degree from all three universities. The TU Dortmund University is the spokesperson for the programme. The four-semester programme is taught in English at all three locations.
"The degree programme provides for a subject specialisation in particle physics and thus offers significant advantages over classical physics degree programmes," explains Prof. Kevin Kröninger, Dean of the Faculty of Physics. "For one thing, it enables valuable international experience. In addition, the students acquire skills that are in demand on the job market with comprehensive methodological training. Furthermore, the degree is a good prerequisite for a promising academic career, such as a subsequent doctorate."
Promoting integration
The DFH has set itself the task of supporting precisely such Franco-German degree programmes. Only programmes that lead to a joint degree and particularly promote integration are selected for funding: students learn about different academic teaching methods and immerse themselves in the culture of the partner country.
