Quantum Computing: a future perspective for scientific computing

Quantum computing is rapidly emerging as a new method of scientific computing. It has the potential to solve problems that are very hard or even impossible for classical computers.

In the talk, I will introduce quantum computing starting from a basic level. Examples of quantum computing applications using quantum computer hardware will be given. These comprise physical systems in condensed matter and high energy physics, flight gate assignment at an airport as a classical optimization problem, scattering of wave packets and also quantum art.
