Application

The application at the Department of Physics is the first step towards your Erasmus exchange. You can apply in the winter semester for the coming academic year, i.e. for the next winter semester and the following summer semester. The application deadline is January 15.

In principle, all Bachelor's students who are at least in their 3rd semester at the time of their exchange and all Master's students can participate in the Erasmus program and study at our partner universities for one or two semesters.

Your application should include the following documents

• Letter of motivation (English, max. 3 pages) stating
  • the university of your choice,
  • the planned period of stay and
  • the planned courses
• Curriculum vitae in tabular form in English
• Proof of the required language skills
• Current transcript of records (from BOSS)

The application should be sent by e-mail to the Erasmus coordination of the Department of Physics.

The chances of getting an Erasmus place are usually quite high, but the universities in Sweden are particularly popular. If there are more applicants than available places, a decision will be made on the basis of the documents submitted. The letter of motivation is of particular importance.

You will be informed at the beginning of February if the department can offer you a spot at your university of choice.

Participants in the Erasmus program have their tuition fees at the host university waived and the credits earned abroad can be recognized at TU Dortmund University. In addition, students may receive a mobility grant. The amount depends on the destination country and the amount of funding that TU Dortmund University received from the DAAD. It is therefore possible that only a subset of the months can be funded in order to enable as many students as possible to spend time abroad. Special grants, for example for students with chronic illnesses or for traveling with children, are available. Scholarships in the home country or grants, such as BAföG, can usually still be obtained in parallel.

After you have been selected by the Department of Physics, you can register at the International Office and apply for the mobility grant. The application deadline for the mobility grant at the International Office for the summer and winter semester is March 31.

The Erasmus coordination of the Department of Physics nominate you at the host university and let you know as soon as this is done. In most cases, the host university will then contact you and ask you to submit an application. The exact requirements and necessary documents vary from university to university. Some universities (e.g. Sweden) require a list of the lectures you would like to attend during your semester abroad at the time of your application. Therefore, please make sure you have a first version of your Learning Agreement early on, i.e. arrange an appointment with the Erasmus department coordination before you submit your application.
