Application

Applying in the Department of Physics is the first application step for your Erasmus semester.

Who:

All Bachelor students who are in their 3rd semester until the exchange and all Master students.

How:

The application is made via the MoveOn online portal. Please register only once with your university email address in the portal and not multiple times with different email addresses!

What:

Your application must include the following documents:

  • Letter of motivation (English, max. 2 pages) stating
    • the university of your choice,
    • the planned period of stay and
    • the planned courses
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form in English
  • Proof of the required language skills
  • Current transcript of records (BOSS excerpt)

Students in the first semester of the Master's program can upload the transcript of records of their Bachelor's degree.

The chances of getting an Erasmus place are usually quite high, but the universities in Sweden are particularly popular. If there are more applicants for a place, a decision will be made on the basis of the documents submitted. The letter of motivation is of particular importance.

When:

You can apply until February 1st for the coming academic year, i.e. for the next winter semester and the following summer semester.

You will receive feedback in mid-February as to whether we can offer you an Erasmus place.

Participants in the Erasmus programme have their tuition fees at the host university waived and their achievements abroad can be recognized for their studies at TU Dortmund University. Furthermore, students can receive a mobility grant, the amount of which depends on the destination country and the DAAD's funding amounts to TU Dortmund University. It is therefore possible that only a smaller number of months can be funded in order to enable as many students as possible to spend time abroad. Special grants, for example for students with chronic illnesses or for traveling with children, are possible. Scholarships in your home country or grants, such as BAföG, can usually be obtained in parallel.

As soon as you have been selected for an Erasmus place at the department, you can apply for the mobility grant at the International Office. The same portal is used for this as for step 1. The application deadline for the mobility grant is March 31!

If your application is successful, the Erasmus department coordinator will nominate you at the host university and inform you accordingly. In most cases, the host university will then contact you and ask for an application. The exact requirements and necessary documents vary from university to university. Some universities (e.g. Sweden, Grenoble, ... ) require a list of the lectures you would like to attend during your semester abroad when you apply. Therefore, make sure you have a first version of your Learning Agreement early on, i.e. before you submit your application, and arrange a consultation appointment with the Erasmus department coordinator.
