Prof. Christian Glaser from the Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University has been awarded the 2026 Wallmark Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for his pioneering research into the radio detection of cosmic neutrinos using machine learning.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the prestigious Wallmark Prize 2026 to Prof. Dr. Christian Glaser from the Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University. The award recognizes his internationally acclaimed research into the radio detection of ultra-high-energy neutrinos and his use of machine learning for the real-time analysis of measurement data from detectors installed in ice.

Glaser has been Professor of Experimental Astroparticle Physics at TU Dortmund University since August 2025. His research focuses on high-energy cosmic neutrinos and cosmic rays - particles that are created during extreme processes in the universe and provide valuable insights into distant astrophysical events. A particular focus is on radio technologies to measure these particles in ice and on the use of artificial intelligence to identify relevant signals in large amounts of data in real time.

His research group is involved in several major international projects, including the IceCube Observatory at the South Pole, the RNO-G experiment in Greenland, the ARIANNA project in Antarctica and the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina. For his ERC-funded project "NuRadioOpt", in which AI is used to optimize future neutrino detectors, he received a Starting Grant of around 1.7 million euros in 2024.

The Wallmark Prize is endowed with 435,000 Swedish kronor (over 40,000 euros) and has been awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1859 for outstanding achievements in mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry and related disciplines.
The Department of Physics would like to congratulate Prof. Glaser on this award.
