EPS Emmy Noether Award for Prof. Dr. Doris Reiter

Since 2013, the European Physical Society (EPS) has presented two Emmy Noether Awards annually to female researchers in physics who have made outstanding achievements in research, teaching and science communication and who act as role models to motivate women to pursue a career in science. This year, the EPS is presenting the Emmy Noether Award in the "mid-career" category to Prof. Dr. Doris Reiter "for her pioneering contributions to theoretical photonics and quantum technology, her transformative leadership role and her innovative public relations work, exemplified by the SUPER scheme and the QuanTour project."
Prof. Reiter has been at TU Dortmund University since 2022 and heads an independent research group in the field of theoretical solid-state physics. One focus of her research is the theoretical description of the generation of high-quality photons, as required for quantum communication. Her work on the SUPER scheme (Swing-UP of quantum EmitteR) describes an innovative excitation method in which two laser pulses interact in a targeted manner to significantly increase the photon yield and reduce interfering environmental influences. The scheme has been taken up internationally and has opened up a new research topic in theory and experiment.
Prof. Reiter is also intensively involved in science communication. At the Department of Physics, she heads the Graduate School DGSP, which coordinates the department's doctoral training. She has been active in the German Physical Society (DPG) for many years. As part of the "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025", she initiated the outreach project QuanTour, in which a quantum light source travels through Europe. The project received prominent coverage in several international media.
The Department of Physics would like to congratulate Prof. Reiter on this high-ranking recognition of her scientific work.
