The DFG approves the Color meets Flavor Cluster of Excellence.

As part of the second round of the Excellence Strategy competition, the German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved the "Color meets Flavor" cluster and will fund it over the next seven years. In this joint project with the Universities of Bonn and Siegen and Forschungszentrum Jülich, the members of the cluster will investigate the interplay of the two elementary forces, the strong (color) and the weak (flavor) interaction. The aim is to improve our understanding of the fundamental processes in the universe and to search for new physical effects in this interplay of forces. The new Cluster of Excellence aims to establish structures that create ideal conditions for collaboration between researchers at the participating locations. In addition, the cluster sees itself as a competence center in which theoretical and experimental researchers work closely together, combine and evaluate data from different experiments and work out the social benefits of basic research.

At the Department of Physics, the working groups of Prof. Johannes Albrecht (LHCb experiment), Prof. Gudrun Hiller (theoretical particle physics), Prof. Kevin Kröninger (ATLAS experiment), Prof. Emmanuel Stamou (theoretical particle physics) and Prof. Julia Vogel (axion physics), as well as the Emmy Noether groups of Dr. Chris Delitzsch (ATLAS experiment) and Dr. Dominik Mitzel (LHCb experiment).
