Student of the Department is appointed Fellow of the International Science Council

The International Science Council pools scientific expertise and advisory services worldwide on issues of great importance to science and society and has been working with UNESCO for many years.

The Dortmund physicist Cyrus Pan Walther is the youngest scientist to be named a Fellow of the International Science Council for his "outstanding contributions to the promotion of science as a global common good". In addition to him, 11 other scientists researching and working in Germany were honored as Fellows. Apart from Cyrus P. Walther, only two other physicists worldwide have been nominated for Fellowship by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics.

The Fellowship of the International Science Council is the highest honor it can bestow on an individual and is awarded to outstanding social and natural scientists and engineers who have made a significant contribution to science and society.

In addition to his research in the field of astroparticle physics in the working groups of Prof. Dr. Dr. Wolfgang Rhode and PD Dr. Dominik Elsässer at the Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University, Cyrus Pan Walther has been President of the International Association of Physics Students since 2022 and a board member of the Commission for Data of the International Science Council since 2023. He is also Vice Chair of the Physics and Industry Working Group of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics.
