Every year since 2019, the Department of Physics has honoured an outstanding dissertation with the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Dissertation Prize. The selected doctoral theses have each been graded "with distinction" and make a significant scientific contribution to their respective field. The award comes with prize money of 4,000 euros, which is financed by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation.
The Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Dissertation Prize for 2023 will be awarded to Dr Andreas Farenbruch. Dr Farenbruch wrote his dissertation in the field of solid state physics under the supervision of Prof. Dr Dmitri Yakovlev. The topic of his thesis is "Polarisation- and time-resolved nonlinear optical spectroscopy of excitons in copper oxide".
