Two awards for special commitment to research and teaching

As part of a final semester colloquium organized by the Physics Student Council on 8 July 2025, two members of the Department of Physics were honoured for their outstanding commitment to research and teaching. Prof. Dr. Marc Aßmann was awarded the faculty's internal teaching prize for the very first time.

Prof. Dr. Marc Aßmann was awarded the faculty's internal teaching prize for the past academic year 2024/2025. The prize was established this year and will be awarded annually in future. Marc Aßmann is the first winner. His outstanding achievements in teaching were recognized, especially in the lectures in the Integrated Course Physics III/IV and in the Introduction to Solid State Physics, which were evaluated outstandingly by the students.

Prof. Dr. Doris Reiter already received the prestigious Emmy Noether Award from the European Physical Society (EPS) in the mid-career category in spring and has now also been honored once again at faculty level - by the Dean of Studies Prof. Dr. Jan Kierfeld. The EPS honors Doris Reiter for her excellent scientific contributions in theoretical photonics and quantum technology - in particular for the so-called SUPER scheme for the generation of quantum light - as well as for her many years of commitment to science communication, for example through the Europe-wide outreach project QuanTour.

Prof. Dr. Metin Tolan opened the event with his colloquium lecture "Shaken, not stirred! - James Bond in the sights of physics".
