"Netflix of the particle world" - only faster: how can 40 million collisions per second be turned into a small amount of meaningful data? At the LHC, data pours into the detector for subsequent processing in quantities that exceed the global data traffic generated by Netflix streaming by orders of magnitude. We follow the jumble of data from the detector to the blockbuster discovery. And we get to know a European network: SMARTHEP bundles methods to accelerate machine learning to calculate physical quantities (ML-
inference) on GPUs/FPGAs, use bandwidth intelligently and keep decisions transparent. The result: less data waste, more relevant physics - and all in real time.
