Erasmus+ internships in a nutshell
The Erasmus+ program supports internships lasting between two and twelve months. Both compulsory and voluntary internships are funded.
Voluntary internships can also be part of a final thesis: for example, you could write your Bachelor's or Master's thesis abroad or spend only part of your Master's thesis (e.g. in the research phase) with a research group abroad with whom you are working together.
You can find more information on internships with Erasmus+ on the website of the International Office.
Recognition:
To be eligible for the Erasmus+ funding, the voluntary internships must be recognized by the department in some form which is defined prior to the internship in the Learning Agreement for Traineeships . Please contact the Erasmus coordinator of the Department of Physics to discuss the recognition. In most cases, the traineeship can be included in the Transcript of Records as a voluntary additional achievement ("Record the traineeship in the trainee's Transcript of Records" in the Learning Agreement).
If the recognition is not possible, students can apply via the PROMOS program.
Finding a traineeship:
An Erasmus+ traineeship does not require a contract between universities. However, you must organize the internship yourself. It is often worth talking to the working groups in the Department of Physics to establish suitable contacts with foreign universities and prepare joint projects (or theses) if necessary.
Application:
Students only need to apply to the International Office for funding; it is not necessary to apply to the department's Erasmus coordination. The deadline for applications to the International Office is two months before the start of the internship.
Please inform the Erasmus coordinator about your application / your planned internship. The Erasmus coordinator can then support you with the recognition of the internship.
