FAQs
- What is the language of instruction in the MMPPLS program?
The program is fully taught in English. All compulsory modules and most elective courses are offered in English.
- Do I have to apply through uni-assist if I am already enrolled at TU Dortmund?
No, students who are already enrolled at TU Dortmund do not need to apply via uni-assist. An internal program change is possible.
-
Do I need to pay the enrollment fee again if I switch to MMPPLS from another TU Dortmund program?
In most cases, no. Please wait until your program change is confirmed before paying the semester fee to avoid duplicate payment. -
Is there a tuition fee for the program?
No. There are no tuition fees. Students only pay a semester contribution (approximately €320), which includes administrative costs and a public transport ticket for all of North Rhine-Westphalia. -
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Physics. Can I apply for MMPPLS?
Yes. A Bachelor’s degree in Physics is a suitable qualification, and chances of admission are generally good. -
When is the best time to start the program – winter or summer semester?
The winter semester is recommended, as the course schedule is optimized for that start. However, beginning in the summer semester is also possible. -
Can I attend courses at other universities like RUB Bochum and receive credits?
Yes. Within the University Alliance Ruhr, it is possible to take courses at partner universities and have them credited in the MMPPLS program. -
Do I have to be enrolled at RUB as a visiting student?
Yes! After enrolling in TU Dortmund, please register in Ruhr University Bochum as an visiting student at the earliest opportunity. Without this status, you will not be able to earn credits or take module examinations at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). The "visiting student" status must be selected during the online enrollment process at RUB. -
Will there still be final module exams (Schwerpunktsprüfungen)?
No. These final exams will no longer be part of the program structure. -
Are courses like Thermodynamics and Statistics available in English?
Yes. These subjects are part of the MMPPLS curriculum in English. The existing German versions will remain available for other programs. Students may choose the version that suits them best. -
Will the Plasma Physics course still be offered?
This depends on cooperation with partner institutions. Currently, the course is organized at TU Dortmund and may remain available as an elective. -
What happens to the previous Medical Physics Master program?
The previous program will continue until March 31, 2028. Students already enrolled can complete their degree under the existing structure or switch to MMPPLS. A transition is recommended, but not mandatory. However, it is no longer possible to enroll in the old Medical Physics program. -
I already took thermodynamics and statistics in my bachelor's degree. Do I have to take it again now?
If “thermodynamics and statistics“ or “Statistical methods of data analysis” have been successfully attended within the Bachelor’s program, students have to choose elective courses instead to reach their full CPs. -
Are there language courses, and can they be credited?
There is a voluntary B2 course in the bachelor's program, which cannot be credited. This is intended to refresh your English skills if you consider this necessary in order to study for a master's degree.
There is a C1 course in the master's program, which can also be credited. A maximum of 5 CP can be earned in a science-related English language course, such as Scientific Writing (minimum level C1). For students whose native language is English, 5 CP can alternatively be credited in the area of German as a foreign language. -
Is it permissible to take the first courses of the master's degree at the end of the bachelor's degree, i.e., to “pre-study” courses?
A maximum of 30 credits can be “pre-studied” in the bachelor's program. -
Can I also take the synchronization courses voluntarily?
Yes
