Introducing HyLeC – A Space for Teaching, Learning and Creative Collaboration

How can innovative learning spaces support university teaching? This talk introduces the Hybrid Learning Center (Hylec) and its role as a place for collaborative, digital, and project-oriented learning. Bringing together flexible learning environments, a dedicated makerspace, and opportunities for digital production and media creation, the Hylec offers students opportunities to experiment, prototype, create, and develop ideas in interdisciplinary contexts while strengthening digital key competencies. After presenting the Hylec's general concept and its current offers for students, the focus will shift to its potential for teaching and curriculum development. Using examples from different faculties, the presentation will explore how Hylec environments, makerspace activities, and digital technologies can be integrated into teaching practice to foster active participation, creativity, interdisciplinary exchange, and hands-on learning. Particular attention will be given to the question of how making and project-based approaches can enrich university teaching across disciplines. The talk also invites discussion on future possibilities for teaching formats that combine physical and digital learning environments in meaningful ways.
